Your true self will take over to the degree that you let go of your illusory self. It is that simple.
But to become enlightened is the hardest thing, because instead of dying and being reborn back into the illusion - which you are familiar with, because you have been doing it for millions of lifetimes – you are actually dying to the entire illusion, and you are entering into the realm of God while you are alive.
